The latest ranking of the world’s wealthiest people shows fortunes climbing again in 2026, with the combined net worth of billionaires reaching roughly 16 trillion dollars. The tally counted about 3,030 billionaires, a slightly larger group than a year earlier.
Technology and e-commerce founders continue to dominate the top of the list. Elon Musk holds the top spot with an estimated fortune around 760 billion dollars, drawn mainly from his stakes in Tesla and SpaceX, followed by figures tied to Google and Amazon.
The gap between the very top and the rest of the list remains wide, with the ten richest individuals holding fortunes ranging from the mid-hundreds of billions down to roughly 150 billion dollars. Much of that wealth is tied to company shares rather than cash, so the figures shift with the market.
Rising stock values, particularly among firms linked to artificial intelligence, helped lift many fortunes over the past year. The concentration of wealth has again drawn attention from policymakers, some of whom have floated new taxes aimed at the largest holdings.
Analysts noted that such rankings offer a snapshot rather than a fixed measure, since net worth estimates depend on share prices that can move quickly. Even so, the broad picture points to continued growth at the top, with technology fortunes leading the way.
