Saudi Arabia ranks seventh in the world for 5G technology and internet speed, Abdullah Alswaha, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said on the sidelines of the fourth edition of the Future Investment Initiative.

Alswaha used the occasion to call for a stronger digital investment push. “We should have more innovative digitalized investments, in the light of the challenges and the unclarity that will come ahead of us in the future,” he said.

He pointed to Saudi Aramco’s technology partnership with Google, worth more than $270 million (SR1 billion), which he described as the largest of its kind in the MENA region, crediting resilience, execution, and speed for the achievement.

The minister also highlighted “The Line,” the recently announced project in NEOM envisioned as a 170-kilometre belt of hyper-connected, AI-enabled future communities built without cars or roads and designed around nature. Powered by renewable energy and free of pollution, he said, the model would also help cut costs.
