Micron Technology has appointed Manish Bhatia as president and chief operating officer, lifting a longtime operations executive into one of the company’s top posts. Bhatia had been serving as executive vice president of global operations and has been with the memory-chip maker since 2017.
The appointment marks the first time Micron has filled the chief operating officer role since 2012, a sign the company is placing added emphasis on its manufacturing and supply operations. Those functions have grown more complex as demand for memory used in artificial intelligence systems has climbed.
In his expanded role, Bhatia will oversee a broad set of responsibilities spanning production, technology development, and the global supply chain. Micron runs fabrication plants across several countries and has been investing heavily to expand capacity for advanced memory products.
The move comes as memory makers navigate a cycle of strong demand tied to data center construction and AI workloads. Micron has positioned itself as a supplier of high-bandwidth memory, a component that has become central to the newest generation of AI accelerators.
Company leadership described the promotion as recognition of Bhatia’s record in scaling operations through periods of both shortage and oversupply. The restored role gives Micron a clearer line of authority over the day-to-day running of a business that depends on precise coordination across factories and markets.
